Books and playlists to start your year off right.
So it has been a really long time since I have gotten into doing a playlist for you guys. And I have also been reading a lot! I decided to make two lists for you guys, what to read and what to listen to for the start of this year. Let us start out with books.
I am nowhere near a book worm, I sit down and read if I have time, and if my constant A.D.D will let me. But when I do get the time to sit down and actually read, this has been my recent go-to books.
1: Dear Evan Hansen.
Dear Evan Hansen started out as a musical, a wonderful musical actually. I have seen this musical on national touring but I have recently discovered the book. To warn you, this book does talk about suicidal thoughts. It may trigger some friends. But at the end of the book, it will give you hope. It is about a boy who suffers from daily anxiety and depression. His therapist, an attempt to help him assigns him to write a letter to himself, he titles it “Dear Evan Hansen, today is going to be a good day, and here is why” it is supposed to help him face the day with a positive outlook and hopefully help him. But it turns into so much more. I highly recommend this book, I also recommend the musical. Listen to the album on any music streaming apps. Ben Plats voice shall give you chills.
2: Girl Boss
I am only 99.9% sure I have recommended this book before. But here I am telling you to read it again! This book is for every ambitious girl boss out there. If you have dreams, ambitions, or anything semi-related to that, this book is for you. This book is about the CEO of Nasty Gal and how she went from practically being homeless, living paycheck from a paycheck, to be an owner of a 2.8 million dollar net worth company. This book will give you hope, more ambition, and will most likely make you giggle.
3: The Tao Of Pooh
Now I love this book for several reasons, but one of the main reasons is the fact that I love Winnie The Pooh more than life itself. The characters make me smile and feel pure. This book just happens to be all about Pooh himself. It talks about how although all of his friends suffer from an issue, (example, Eeyore suffers from depression) Pooh is just the way he is. And he loves that about himself. It builds confidence in yourself and it helps you see a positive outlook on life. It is a beautiful book.
You can find ANY of these books on Amazon, you can find the first two at your local Barnes and Noble as well. I hope you enjoy my three current favorite books, now let’s move on to my playlist that I am using to start off 2019!
Let me start out by saying that I love Indie music. That and show tunes, but I will not be featuring Broadway classics on this playlist, sadly. If you want to just push shuffle on my playlist and see if you like it, here is the link.
Oxford Coma, Vampire Weekend.- Okay, anything Vampire Weekend writes I am in love with it. But this just happens to be one of my favorites. It is calming yet catchy at the same time. Also, did you guys hear that Vampire Weekend is hinting about a new playlist? Super excited for that.
Visions Of China, The Lumineers- If you do not listen to Lumineers, stop everything that you are doing right now and listen to every single one of their albums. This song is calming and simple. Plus the Lumineers can murder any song that they write.
Old Willow Lane, Mindy Gledhill- Mindy Gledhill is a local singer based out of Provo, she just released her new album, “Rabbit Hole” and this is one of my favorite songs from the album.
Dear Doubt, No King. No Crown- Honestly this song is kind of really sad. But it is calming and has a gorgeous sound to it.
Listen to my playlist for more! My family tells me that my music is boring, but maybe someone out there will appreciate it. As always, thank you for reading, if you enjoyed this please like, comment, or share! Love you all!
