I don't know why I am laughing in this photo, its true school is ruining me.
Hey guys! So I know that most of my posts are either about great tips or products, or just some advice. But today I would love to have you guys learn more about me, so today I am going to talk about my school life! Enjoy, I hope you can relate!
So, for those who don't know, I am sixteen years old. I have been doing school for eleven years. And I have hated every single part of it. Okay yes, football games, dances, friends, all of that has been so much fun. But I am not book smart. At all. So no matter how good my life is doing, if my grades aren't fine, I am not fine. We are living in a world where everything is based around school education, which gives (most of) us nothing but anxiety. The levels of education aren't even fair, I feel like my teacher is asking me to climb a tree, and I am a giraffe, and the rest of my classmates are monkeys. If that didn't make sense to you, look at this picture.
Okay, that paragraph was mostly me ranting. But now I have to get down to simple facts that prove my statement that school is slowly ruining me. I promise I am not just an annoyed teenager. I am, but I am an annoyed teenager with facts, and a voice.
OVER CROWDED SCHOOLS!
Oh my goodness I cannot stress this enough. Our schools are so overcrowded. Here is my first fact that is also personal; my school is one of the most populated schools in Utah. We are tied with one other school. My classes have around 40 kids each. Scheduling your classes for the next year are so stressful because classes fill up within seconds. You can barely move in the hallways. I know that most schools around my valley can relate to this. A study by the National Center for Education Statistics found that 14 percent of the U.S schools exceed capacity. (Source, www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2018/01/29/10-more-reasons-why-the-us-education.html)
THEY GIVE UP.
If you don't prove yourself at a certain level, they give up on you. They throw you in lower classes. They never try to teach you a different way, they just assume you aren't "standard developing". Also known as, you are not as smart as the other kids, so we won't treat you like the rest. This is personally from experience only, because my skills lack in math I have been treated COMPLETELY different in that area since the seventh grade.
The amount of violence at school is awful. Fist fights, kids showing up with knives, people showing up and shooting. It is ridiculous. "Violence and Crime at School–Principal Reports. During the 2013–14 school year, 65 percent of public schools recorded that one or more violent incidents had taken place, amounting to an estimated 757,000 incidents. This figure translates to a rate of approximately 15 crimes per 1,000 students enrolled in 2013–14" source; National Center for Education Statistics. And only a few schools around the U.S have attempted to increase anything to help decrease the rate. And no, giving kids clear backpacks is not helping.
Okay guys, I could truly talk for the longest time about why our public education system needs help. But for now that is all I have. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate school, and I am so grateful that I have access to education as a young women. I just always think we can do more. Thank you guys so much for reading. I love you all tons!
